High-purity frosted quartz, tuned to G4, E4 and C4 at A=432 Hz. Struck softly the bowls give one clean tone; rimmed with the mallet they hold it. Meinl gives the set a two-year warranty. This is the most expensive thing on the site, and the only one we would call optional.

What we cannot claim

The best study we have found on singing-bowl meditation is observational: sixty-two people, no control group, measured before and after a single session. It found real drops in tension and low mood. It cannot tell us whether the bowls did it, or the hour of lying still.

How to use it

How to play one

Sit

Bowl on its ring, on the floor, at arm’s length. Sit so you can reach it without leaning.

Strike

One soft strike on the outer wall. Do nothing else until the tone has fully gone.

Circle

Then run the mallet slowly round the rim, steady pressure, until the tone stands on its own.
